The main traffic control centre of Prague

The project of the Main Traffic Control Centre (HDRU) for the Capital City of Prague included implementing a dispatching centre for central coordinated traffic management in the city and a system for providing up-to-date and verified traffic information.

The primary source of data is telematic equipment, systems of the Police of the Czech Republic, the Fire and Rescue Service, and the Health Rescue Service, or the system of the Central Registration of Road Closures. VARS Brno provided a vital part of the project—the implementation of the control system itself, from the design of its architecture, through software development and implementation to the final consultation and training.

The contract included integrating telematics equipment into the HDŘÚ, installing system infrastructure and related hardware and GIS technology for data processing and presentation. The project also included relocating the tunnel traffic control system to the Strahov Automobile Tunnel control room and modifying the electrical wiring and ventilation of the control room itself. The control system that we designed and implemented processes all information about the traffic situation and, according to it, triggers the so-called control scenarios, which further provide for the change of the state of the telematic equipment—for example, the change of the traffic light plan.

As part of the project, VARS BRNO designed and developed a web application that provides information on events (accidents, traffic restrictions, congestion), closures (detours, excessive traffic, road repairs) and traffic loads, as well as information on road passability based on data from weather stations. Users can also view the data via a mobile app.
