The new generation dispatching centre for České Budějovice goes into test operation

The new traffic information and control centre will combine information from several sources in one place–the dispatching centre will be operated jointly by municipal police officers and transport company employees. It will be located on Horní Street in the building of the transport company. The building has undergone a structural modification, the necessary technologies are now installed, and the workplace is preparing for a three-month test run.

With the new dispatching centre, České Budějovice gets the most modern tool, allowing them to evaluate traffic data and effectively create scenarios for its management. “The dispatching centre brings together information from all possible sources–data, cameras, information on the location and movement of vehicles. Dispatchers thus have a comprehensive picture of the current situation in the form of a load map,” says Pokorný, adding that any other inputs– for example, sensors in public transport vehicles–can be easily plugged into the system to refine the data available to the system further.

Above the surveillance itself is the ability of the system to create scenarios for typical situations. Whether for the “big” ones, for example, a hockey match or a large-scale closure of a major road, or for more minor and everyday situations. “The system includes other subsystems, including traffic lights. It thus suggests to dispatchers how to react to the situation based on prepared scenarios, as it predicts its development based on previous data. If the dispatcher approves the scenario, the system will implement it, and it will rebuild, for example, the traffic light plan,” explains Michal Zedníček, project manager at VARS BRNO a.s.

The decisions that dispatchers make based on the data from the system and the proposed solutions should then reach the drivers themselves as soon as possible. Among other things, the dispatching system will be connected to a system that will show drivers’ current data on parking occupancy.

“For VARS BRNO, this contract demonstrates what a comprehensive solution we can prepare. We are putting very efficient technical means for advanced traffic management in the hands of the city. Moreover, the system is ready for further expansion. We believe that České Budějovice will use its potential to the fullest, and it will positively impact traffic in the city,” concludes Radim Kostrhoun, Production Director of VARS BRNO. The traffic information and control centre is to be operated in March 2023.
